CANAL WINCHESTER OHIO HISTORY |
Canal Winchester, established in 1811, has a rich history in agriculture, commerce and transportation. When the Ohio and Erie Canal was completed in 1831, it identified Canal Winchester as a strategic location for the business of that era. Canal Winchester is home to significant historical sites. The last covered bridge in the county, built in March 1887, can be found on Ashbrook Road. The Canal Winchester Area Historical Society has proudly set up a complex at the entrance of the village containing the Prentiss school, an 1850's era school; a Train Depot built in 1869 and historic Chaney Mill Elevator. Downtown Canal Winchester epitomizes small town charm with paved crosswalks, antique lamps and traditional storefronts. |
