COLUMBUS OHIO HISTORY |
The city of Columbus was founded in 1812 and has served as the capital for Ohio since 1816. The city has gradually grown into the most populous city in the state of Ohio with over 711,000 people within the city limits as of the 2000 Census. Helping to facilitate this population growth has been the city's tremendous land area expansion. Columbus is the county seat for Franklin county, while also extending into Delaware, Fairfield and Licking counties. | |
