GROVEPORT OHIO HISTORY |
|
Groveport became incorporated in April of 1847 with an approximate population of 250. The town flourished due to its proximity to the Ohio canal, settlers coming from nearby states and the establishment of the railroad in 1868. The Town Hall was completed in the Spring of 1876 and aside from recent renovations, the hall stands as originally builty in 1876. Today the building is home to the Groveport Heritage Museum, Cultural Arts Center, Art Gallery, Senior Transportation Program and provides meeting sites for individuals and civic organizations. Groveport's boundaries changed significantly in the 1950's and 1990's with the addition of several subdivisions to the village. Main Street has been renovated within the past ten years with the installation of historical street lights, brick crosswalks and new sidewalks. Storm sewers and water lines were also improved. |
