The Horse Whisperer

John S. Rarey (1827-1866), was the Groveport horse whisperer, who gained international fame for His humane horse training methods. In 1858, the Queen of England even summoned Him to calm her horse!  While in England, John was challenged with taming the fiercest horse around - an English stallion named CRUISER. Of course, He was successful and the owners were so impressed, that they gave Him Cruiser to take back to His Groveport home. Cruiser remained tame, but upon John's death, His temper returned. Cruiser became the mascot of the Groveport School District, because of his example that combining power, intelligence and discipline brings success.

With affordable housing, friendly and welcoming neighborhoods and high-quality schools, families continue to find Groveport Madison Schools a desirable school district in which to locate. As a result, enrollment in the District is growing year after year. This year, the District reached a record enrollment of 5,588, increasing by more than 100 students over the 2015-2016 school year. While enrollment growth is a positive indication of our increasing quality and desirability, it also is creating overcrowded conditions at many of our schools. - See more at: http://www.gocruisers.org/protected/ArticleView.aspx?iid=63BYG32&dasi=4GUA0#sthash.t8ITWZjv.dpuf

Groveport History

Groveport was incorporated in 1847, with a population of 250. The town flourished due to its proximity to the Ohio canal, settlers coming from nearby states and the establishment of the railroad in 1868. The Town Hall was completed in the Spring of 1876 and aside from recent renovations, the hall stands as originally built. Today the building is home to the Groveport Heritage Museum, Cultural Arts Center, Art Gallery, Senior Transportation Program and offers meeting space for rent. Groveport’s boundaries changed significantly in the 1950’s and 1990’s with the addition of several subdivisions to the village. Main Street has been renovated with the installation of historical street lights, brick crosswalks and new sidewalks.
